5 Up and Coming Neighbourhoods in Ottawa

Ottawa was once considered a boring, “government” town, but not anymore. People are flocking to the city far and wide to buy an affordable property and enjoy a comfortable, activity-filled lifestyle. Ottawa has become so popular over the past few years that there’s more development going on in the city than ever before. If you’re looking to find the latest up-and-coming neighbourhoods in Ottawa before it’s too late, check out the list below and then contact us to set up a tour.

Mechanicsville

Once known as a lumber and paper mill area has quickly gentrified into one of the next up-and-coming neighbourhoods in Ottawa – and in a relatively short amount of time. Numerous developers are building here because of the location – steps away from the popular hipster area of Hintonburg and close to the water. If you’re looking to get into a hip new condo close to everything, don’t wait. Mechanicsville won’t be under the radar for much longer.

Barrhaven

A hop, skip, and a step outside of the city lies a newly built area that is quickly becoming the next hot spot for young families. Barrhaven has been steadily growing over the past number of years due to the abundance of affordable, sizable homes being built. Not to mention, the area has a quaint downtown core that has all the amenities you need close by. If you’re on the hunt to find a 4-bedroom home you can afford in a family-centric community that offers a slower pace of life, Barrhaven is worth a look.

Little Italy

If you’ve been down to Dow’s Lake recently, you may have noticed all the development happening. There’s the Claridge Icon near completion, towering right by the water, along with another 500 units slated across 3-residential towers built by Arnon Corp. There’s also Gladstone Village, a 1100-unit development that is planned for 2025. The area is booming with development in anticipation of the Trillium Line LRT station that is currently under construction.

Orleans

There are at least eight community development projects in play across the area of Orleans, just east of the city. This includes the Commons by Glenview Homes, Rhythm by Caivan, Trailsedge and Axis Court by Richcraft, Eastboro by Ashcroft Homes, Spring Valley Trails by Claridge, Avalon by Minto, Provence by eQ Homes and Summerside South by Mattamy Homes. And many of these communities have sold out already. What brings all the leading name developers to Orleans? Location! Orleans is the perfect mix between new and old. It has all the amenities you could ask for, and it’s within close proximity to the city center via the 417. The land out here is also incredibly beautiful with lush parklands, farmlands, and that good old-fashioned, small neighbourhood charm.

Gloucester

Gloucester, in the south end of the city, is also getting a development kick. The development communities of Deerfield Village 2, Sundance Findlay Creek, Lilythorne, Cowan’s Grove, Findlay Creek Village, and Pathways at Findlay Creek are all ongoing right now. So whether you’re looking for a low-rise condo, townhome, two-story single, or bungalow, the Gloucester area has a plethora of new builds ready for purchase. For those who have never been to this area of town, it’s a great place for anyone who loves outdoor activities since there’s an abundance of green space to enjoy.  Ottawa is growing fast.
