Take a look at some key reasons why many local residents and business owners flock to this centralized, exciting community.

The Golden Triangle: An Iconic Retail and Dining Destination

Elgin Street, with its many popular shops and restaurants, forms one edge of the Golden Triangle. There are many excellent commercial spaces in this area perfectly suited for your business. Whether you want to call the neighbourhood home or set up future commercial operations here, you’ll find a wide array of boutique shops, one-of-a-kind restaurants with mouth-watering menus, and plenty of public services including City Hall, all within walking distance thanks to the smaller size of this beloved community in the heart of Ottawa. Plus, the Rideau Centre and ByWard Market are just mere blocks away, giving you even more shopping, dining and entertainment options!

Natural Attractions and Entertainment Options

The Rideau Canal is the standout treasure of Ottawa’s Golden Triangle area, bordering a large percentage of the neighbourhood. In the winter, you can join thousands of others in enjoying a skate, hot chocolate, and a Beavertail right on the ice of the world’s longest skating rink. During other times of the year, you’ll find plenty of bike and walking paths to explore, winding their way through park spaces and following the iconic waterway. In addition, the Jack Purcell Community Centre and Pool offers programming for children and even adults, swimming, and plenty of recreation options. Other sporting associations include the nearby Rideau Sports Centre or, further out by Riverside, YSSA Ottawa.

Employment and Education Opportunities Abound

Are you planning on becoming a student, or does one live in your household? They’ll love the easy access to the University of Ottawa via a recently completed pedestrian bridge right here in the Golden Triangle. Plus, OC Transpo has been optimized to include the Confederation Line LRT, making it easier and much faster to reach other parts of the city for even more employment opportunities! If you have younger kids, this area offers one of the top-ranked high schools in Ottawa, Lisgar Collegiate Institute. Not only is this an excellent school, it is also steps away from the Rideau Canal and Parliament Hill. Living in the heart of Canada’s Capital places the best jobs and educational opportunities right at your doorstep – the only hard part is deciding which you’ll choose from.

Frequently Asked Questions

Absolutely! Hugging the western edge of the Rideau Canal and within walking distance to City Hall, the Golden Triangle is a safe and welcoming part of Canada’s Capital. The local Ottawa Police headquarters are nearby, and the area is predominantly zoned for residential use. This also means that you’re likely to find more homes for sale in the Golden Triangle, though there certainly are also plenty of pubs, eateries, and shops along nearby Elgin Street to enjoy.
Primarily on foot, of course! This is because the Golden Triangle is one of the smallest and most compact neighbourhoods in all of Ottawa. It’s extremely convenient and easy to navigate. Not only that but, being centrally located, many of the downtown core’s amenities, transit options, landmarks and more are a stone’s throw away. Of course, if you need to access other parts of the city for work, play, or retail therapy, this also means that it’s a breeze to hop onboard an OC Transpo bus at one of many local stops. Or, if you cross the iconic Corktown Footbridge to the east, the sleek and efficient LRT system can be accessed via the University of Ottawa’s dedicated campus station.
The Golden Triangle is classified as a sub-neighbourhood of Somerset Ward, which is located right in the heart of Ottawa. Nearby wards include the Capital, Kitchissippi, Rideau-Vanier and Rideau-Rockcliffe wards.

Due to the smaller size of the Golden Triangle neighbourhood, there aren’t as many schools as there are in other areas, but you also don’t need to travel far to get to them thanks to the community’s central location!

For those specifically within the borders of the Golden Triangle, there are the Elgin Street Public School and the Lisgar Collegiate Institute, though not far away you also have the University of Ottawa, Glashan Public School, Corpus Christi Elementary School, and St. Nicholas Adult High School.

The Golden Triangle is, as the term implies, a triangle-shaped section of central Ottawa that primarily consists of residential properties. It is bordered to the west by Elgin Street, running north to south and packed to the brim with shops, eateries including fine dining restaurants, and more. The Rideau Canal forms the ‘point’ of the triangle and the eastern edge of the community.

The Golden Triangle is located almost directly south of the Rideau Centre and Confederation Park, and it sits just behind the current City Hall. Parliament Hill and Wellington Street are to the northwest, while Sandy Hill is across the section of the Rideau Canal, serving as the neighbourhood’s eastern border.

For public services, Ottawa City Hall is within walking distance of all properties in the Golden Triangle, making it easy to update identification, apply for permits, and/or to address other needs involving the municipality. The Rideau Canal can quickly be accessed for skating in the wintertime, and in the warmer months this is a popular stretch for cyclists, those who love to read by the water, and dog-walkers. There are several prominent local parks to be found including St. Luke’s Park, Jack Purcell Park, Minto Park, and Confederation Park (the latter being across from City Hall, just outside the neighbourhood).

Other nearby amenities include the ever-impressive Canadian Museum of Nature – a must-see for the little ones and those with a passion for science – as well as the Rideau Centre and the innumerable other local amenities found around it. These include banks, plenty of shops selling a dizzying range of wares, the ByWard Market just beyond, childcare centres, and many more. You’ll never run out of things to see or do!

If you’re a foodie, this is the community for you. If you’re not, it will turn you into one! There are many excellent, well-rated restaurants and eateries in the immediate area to suit all budgets and culinary tastes. From celebrated luxurious icons like Beckta to Pure Kitchen Elgin for ultra-healthy alternatives, and then even a thriving pub scene including favourites like the Sir John A Pub, East India Company, and Browns Socialhouse Centretown, there’s truly something for everyone. One walk along Elgin Street will have you ready to dig into any number of incredible menus, and you’re sure to discover a new favourite dining spot or two.
